The City Attorney is elected to office every four years. His duties include advising the Mayor and City Council on the legality of the actions they take on behalf of the City. The City Attorney prepares and revises Ordinances and Resolutions at the request of the City Council. The City Attorney also represents the City in legal actions taken against it and appears in court to represent the City Council and City Officials if lawsuits are filed against it.
The City Attorney files actions in court due to the violations of City and State laws, appearing in Municipal Court to prosecute such violations and misdemeanors.
